Old introduction to this page:

I’m very much chalk and talk, and past attempts to teach by other means haven’t really made much difference. But I feel like trying again; this time, using a blog.

I haven’t a clue how good it will be or what format it should take, but that will probably reveal itself over time as this chemistry blog rolls out. If you have any suggestions please let me know – even to the point of giving students editorial control.

The blog is mainly for students studying EDEXCEL Chemistry (9080 GCE Chemistry).

Best regards…

Mr A.

Salam.
Miss the time when i always check this blog out to see if any new questions were posted by friends.
So juz thought of leaving a comment here.
Who knows any other graduated 8M1 @ 8M2 students will like to comment as well.
=P

Hello Akmar. Thanks for dropping on by. It is quite lonely here :(

If your around Shah Alam, please pop in for a minum and a chat. :)

Actually i always check tis blog out, who knows anybody left a comment. But till yesterday none did.
So i started.
Hope any of my friends will just do the same thing.
Hahaha..
Neways, miss the environment in INTEC!
IMU is so much different.

Each place we pass through becomes special. It’s kinda like we impart some kind of essence of ourselves to these places. Weird huh? and it would also be nice to think that the place reflects a bit of us from the essence we left behind.

Too sentimental huh?

Well you seem to have a magic touch, as Amy has asked a Q.

aaahh..

IMU is better in its environment, cool temperature + non-sweaty atmosphere, relaxed situation, living quarters, freedom, close proximity to campus, smaller campus (so dont have to walk as much).

Shah Alam is better in its FOOD availability, supermarket availability.

gosh, I miss KFC, McD, Mydin, Giant.. but definitely do not miss the endless sweating.
nearest supermarket is 15-20 minutes’ walk.. ktm station is 5 minutes’ walk, but we can’t just take the ktm whenever we need some little thing..

food. i need food. this is a food-less place.
never mind, can lose some weight

Dear M2.

Thanks for remembering those from your recent past. Glad for you that some things are better, even though for some strange reason I feel ‘bad’ (but honestly not surprised) that there is somewhere better than INTEC.

Well it should be the case. IMU is swimming with $ yes? Fees amounting to over RM 1,000,000 per degree yes? If they didn’t give you greater creature comforts then pretty soon they wouldn’t have many more students applying to be with them.

I don’t usually discuss politics here, but I can’t keep quiet.

If your a Muslim I’d ask you not to miss KFC or McD as they contribute money to a viscous government that causes misery across the planet. Please consider boycotting such establishments as well as British ones for they also support Zionist terrorism.

If your not a Muslim, I would appeal to your sense of humanity not to aid the ongoing misery of millions. Really, the first hand accounts that I’ve heard from the Doctors who were there in Gaza treating the Palestinian civilians were utterly horrific. You might remember I mentioned in class that the Americans used white phosphorous against the people of Fallujah – an international war crime by the way – well, the same nightmare was unleashed upon the people of Palestine too.

So please do not help this kind of thing to continue. Instead support your local food sellers where possible. Malaysia boleh!

Well INTEC has been a foodless place for a while. The people running Block A (‘AUSMAT’) cafe apparently had their contract run out and, so the story goes, it was forbidden by regulation to increase their term of trading, so for AGES nobody was selling food there. It is a pity. Generally the food was alright and it was very affordable.

I think even today nobody is selling from there.

Then we had the IMH totally horrible, impractical ‘dalam senyum di mata hari’ sterile art-gone-berserk and ridiculous “renovation” of the cafe beside the old library. So no food from there for ages also! Now tho’ it is open but is pretty much the same kind of food services available as were available before. At the same time the bloc V/W cafe was closed for ages too.

It got so bad that some ADFP students took the initiative and went around selling sandwiches. Please keep in touch and if your around, I’ll buy you a drink at that ‘moon-scape’ old library cafe. I miss you.

yeah… imu is a foodless place *cry*
although there are ‘unlicensed’ food stalls in front of imu, but I REALLY doubt the hygiene and cleanliness of the dishes..
i think i will lose 5kg every month if this situation continues..
so i guess i have to sharpen my cooking skill so that i will not starved to death. haha

anyway mr allan, i’m a muslim and r boycotting mcd, kfc etc..
it’s the least thing that i can do for my muslim brothers and sisters at Palestine.
it’s undeniable that i miss them (especially after the 6ringgit Mcd lunch promotion)
hmm but well, nasi lemak is soo much better =)

miss INTEC very much! and i really mean it

Dear m1.

Thanks for remembering this old site. It seems like cobwebs are starting to appear here. Habuk la!

yeah… imu is a foodless place *cry* Oh dear! Food is one of life’s best pleasures, and IMU hasn’t any? Have you thought of collecting money and hiring a caterer once a week/month to deliver food to your hostel?

Cooking can be enjoyable, but it takes a while to get the hang of it. If you share a kitchen you may find it better if you take it in turns to cook for your ‘wing’ of the hostel. I am getting fussy about my Nasi Lemak. It seems fewer places are making great NL.

Glad your boycotting :) . It’s not just a Muslim issue but a human issue too. Having said that I think Muslims have an extra duty to do what they can to support the Palestinians – most of whom are Muslims. Actually the Christians and even some groups of Jews face persecution over there, but of course it’s the Muslim Palestinians who experience the greatest amount of suffering. A long time ago, when I moved here, I used to eat a lot of McD etc. But some things are more important than my own desire to indulge.

I saw a presentation given by Dr. Hamdi and others, who went to Gaza’s largest hospital, Shifa, to treat the victims of the Zionist slaughter. It brought tears to my eyes, but people need to witness the horrors being done.

I think the Kuala Lumpur Foundation To Criminalise War
http://www.criminalisewar.org/mediacentre.html has a copy

http://www.criminalisewar.org/pdf/Dr.%20Hamdi.zip

You’ve been at IMU almost 2 weeks now. I’m sure when the ‘newness’ wears off then you’ll grow as fond of IMU as you were of INTEC. How have you survived ‘ragging’??

M1, u’ll lose 5kg every month?
That means u’ll be left with nothing after not even a year!
Guess IMU really need to do something.
Hahaha..
I’m pretty lucky as i’m not living in condos like most of us did.
I’m staying at home, but that means i’ll put on weight for sure. Though i wont say 5kg per month. ;-p

Yes, boycotting.
Maybe b4 tis i didnt realise it, but it seems now McD is really putting on real good offers. Luckily my love for the Palestinians are still stronger than my love for food.
Perhaps McD is feeling the effects of boycott?

p/s: I called JPA this morning to ask abt our allowance. Guess what? I was transerred 10times, until when i got to the 10th officer, i asked to be transferred to bhgn aduan. Then only they started taking my ic no to check on my case. It seems they hvnt even started any effort on our allowance yet. So, really need to save money!

Yes McD and the rest are feeling financial pressure.
The Boycott and the economic collapse are both having an effect.
Expect McD to throw out loads of ‘tempting’ offers to get people to break the boycott. Encourage others to maintain it and encourage non-boycotters to abstain. It’s not just McD though, its all companies like this, AND BRITISH companies too. Inminds were said to have identified Tesco supermarket as directly giving money to Israel.

Movement grows to boycott Israeli products

and

**MUST SEE** Channel 4: Our camera cannot hope to convey the enormity of the destruction “Village wiped off the map”

Because of the nature of the boycott – mostly individuals doing it, it’s not easy to determine in measurable terms and therefore report about it. Analysis and reports are scarce.

At least after the ‘complaint’ was mentioned they treated you better. A good thing to share with your fellow students. Hope you get your $$ soon, but remember the stories of it being slow to come through when at INTEC?

haha of course i’m juz bluffing =p
nevermind, i have an extra excuse to go back home every week!
*evil laugh*

hmm i think most of the famous brands in this world are giving money to Israel..
the best way is to support our local products!
eg. nescafe to ali cafe(haha) or maggi to mee sedap (it’s not like i encourage anyone to eat instant noodles)

haaaa~~
nooooo
i thought jpa wants to wait for our alvel result first..
i’ve spend a lot of money paying rent n lots of stuff
ok2.. be patient
anyway, thanks for the information! =)

ps. sorry for any typo

“the best way is to support our local products!” – Superb statement! Supporting local business has many more strongly positive effects too. Local is best in the vast majority of cases.

Instant noodles Hummmmm…. :p

Interesting you mention Maggie – it’s not actually Malaysian! It’s Swiss, owned by Nestle (who own Nescafe). I found Nescafe a bit over roasted (like ash trays) and bitter coffee anyway. no big deal not drinking that, and Maggie Mi are pretty low quality anyway.

Inminds.co.uk, prints this research finding:

“The swiss company owns 50.1% of israeli food maker Osem Investments. In dec 2000, it announced , it will invest millions of dollars to operate the new R&D centre
in israel.

In 1998, Mr. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe on behalf of Nestle, received the Jubilee Award by the Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. This is the highest tribute ever awarded by the “State of Israel” in recognition of those individuals and organizations, that through their investments and trade relationships, have done the most to strengthen the Israeli economy.”

Not good! and yes there are many companies the committed boycotter should avoid. Sometimes we have little choice but to buy from these people, however we shouldn’t use that as an excuse to buy from them and it’s quite rare that me must buy something from them which is essential to our lives!!!

don’t worry about the typo. Typo’s are my middle name.

I’m anxious too, to get to know your results! Not long now!

u got me wrong sir..
i said that we have to switch from maggi or nescafe to any other local brands.. i know that maggi is not malaysian
my word is misleading right? huhu sorry about that

interesting information u got there sir..
yeah.. do our very best to avoid buying products from them!
most of the products are not necessities anyway

*Typo’s are my middle name* hahahaha that’s funny!

huhu 5 days left~~~

I didn’t think you were saying something like you were supporting Maggi. So don’t worry :) I was ‘exposing’ Maggi only for those who don’t know.

Sadly, foreign brands are sort of used as a weird kind of status symbol – you know, the more ‘western’ brands you have in your life somehow makes you a better person – in the eyes of fools that is.

There may be some quality issues, but those issues are best discussed in other places.

I’ve read a lot about Zionism and occupied Palestine. It has relevance to a great portion of the world today. But Palestine and boycotts are pretty much as political as this blog gets.

My thanks for participating in the Boycott. Your act of humanity and morality is appreciated by millions.

Salam…
One day left for the release of result.
But no way we can get our result tomorrow.
Hurm…
Next week then…

yeah.. have to call pn rita tomorrow
she’ll said whether we passed or not
we can’t even know our cut off point!
scary~~ huhu

Its a nervous time alright. I’m nervous too! The requirment for ALM is v.v.high. 14 points right? I’ve always thought that quite high, but A-level students usually do v. well, so actualyl 14 point isn’t usually an issue.

But I’m confident that you guys have put in the effort necessary to make it, having worked hard (or hard at important stages *ahem*) during your time at INTEC.

My predictions was 34 A’s and 3B’s if I remember correctly. B’s in chem can allow you to pass if you ‘A’ in bio. Or better still, surpass my predictions and ‘A’ in chem :)

In the past the occasional student didn’t study earl enough and paid the penalty: falling one or two points behind the cut off. All was not lost however, as a few staff in INTEC were able to offer advice and I think help students get a place on a medical course at other places (India). This was a few years ago and for stu’s who had just finished the June exams so I’m not sure what options or how many options would be available for those of you who may not quite reach the required points, but remember, Like Hess’s law, God will allow you to achieve your dentiny independent fo the route taken. :)
(not surprisingly perhaps, I like that one!

So, wishing you all the best for tomorrow.
